HPS CAMPAIGN GAME START

(VICKSBURG - PENINSULA - GETTYSBURG - FRANKLIN - CORINTH)

~ continued ~

If you have been presented with the "Save As" window, you will be asked to save the campaign file with a name of your choice. The window will also display any other file names which you may have saved previously. Note that in this example the two previous file names are preceded by two exclamation (!) points. This is a good practice to adopt as it lifts you campaign files to the top of the file order within the game folder and makes them easy to access and select. After you have named your file, click the "Save" button.

The "Situation Dialog" window will then be displayed, from which you will be asked to select three things: the side you wish to play, the mode of play, and your "starting situation" or specific campaign! In our example we have chosen the Union side, the "Play-by-E-Mail" mode and the fourth listed "Glendale and White Oak Swamp" campaign starting position. When you have finished making these selections, simply click the "OK"button.
(The selection of a particular "starting situation" or specific campaign may be assisted by opening the "cwcamp.exe" file found in your selected game's main folder location to review the options available. In our HPS Peninsula example we have chosen what is actually labeled therein as the "gwoshuhill" file, the fourth such selection.)

The game will next display a series of "Front End" information windows, the first of which is usually the "Campaign Overview," each window containing explanatory text and selection buttons. After reviewing the explanations, select the continue button.

In this example the "Front End" window is labeled the "Current Situation" and gives the player more specific information on the campaign point selected.

Eventually the player will be brought to the "Decision" window, in which he is offered the choice of one or more alternate strategies. Each choice will be briefly described and illustrated with a small map. In this particular example, while there is only one choice offered for the Union player, the Rebel player, in his own half of the campaign selection process, will have two!

Once a decision has been made for the campaign strategy, a "Campaign Game Message" window will be superimposed stating that the campaign file is ready to E-Mail to your opponent. Click the "OK" button!

The original "Front End" campaign selection window will then be displayed on your desktop. It is now time to close the program by clicking on the "Exit" button and E-Mail the prepared campaign file to your opponent.
