November, 2010, AotT Army Report

Post by Joe Meyer »

November 21, 2010

It is my pleasure to present the November, 2010, Monthly Report of the Union Army of the Tennessee.

As of this date this field army has attached to it a total of forty-nine officers: forty active, four currently assigned to the AotT Hospital, three to the detached Ninth Division, and two on Leave of Absence. Colonels Steve Trauth and Antonio Aitala have since resigned their active commissions.

The army conducted its tenth Muster Call since its January re-organization this month with forty of the forty-one “available” officers responding, recording a 97% Muster Report return rate.

The detached Ninth Division currently lists three officers as Out-of-Contact: Brig. Gen. Paul Brennan, Lt. Col. Gabriel Szala, and Col. Dan Macnamara. Attempts to contact all three officers regularly have been and will be continued. With no reply from these officers it is, of course, difficult to determine their actual welfare. There now exist seven brigade vacancies within the AotT OOB.

Of the four officers in the AotT Hospital, Lt. Victor Balaguer and Col. Bill Cassely, are entering their third and final month in that institution, Maj. Wayne Lubbert begins his second month, and Brig. Gen. James Evans begins his first month.

Five of the six divisions of this army turned in 100% Muster Returns, and the following records have been noted:
Brig. Gen. Jeffrey McDonald’s First Infantry Division – seventh overall effort.
Col. Ray Matthews’s Third (1st) Cavalry Division – fourth overall effort.
Gen. Chuck Jensen’s First Infantry Division - ninth consecutive and overall effort.
Col. John Sheffield’s Second Infantry Division – fourth consecutive and eighth overall effort.
Brig, Gen. John Lytwak’s Third (2nd) Cavalry Division - fourth consecutive and seventh overall effort.

For the two corps involved this was the seventh 100% Muster Return for Lt. Gen. Michael Dowling’s XVI Corps!

The Army of the Tennessee concluded thirty-two actions during the month of October: thirty battles and two maneuvers. Six of the battles resulted in AotT Major Victories, all of them qualifying either in whole or in part for battlefield ribbons. There were two Minor Victories and nine DRAWS. Our Rebel opponents, however, scored thirteen victories against us, all of them Major.

Capt. Roberto Sanchez earned his very first MV ribbon at HPSCA, Rocky Face Ridge! Lt. Gen. Michael Dowling recorded a MV at HPSCV, #CAM_May 3rd 5am C2U3, 3-Day Chancellorsville. Col. Dave Elkin continued his winning ways with another battle field ribbon for HPSCG, #005 Aldie. And Brig. Gen. Stefan Reuter was the victor in HPSCN #031, Antietam.

Lt. Gen. Ian Miller secured part of another FMV MV at #Cam_Jay's Mill 9am (H) in HPSCCH; and also recorded a Minor Victory in HPSCCH, #Cam_Breckinridge Attack (H). Col. Dave Elkin also scored a Minor Victory in HPSCCH, #088 Frk_Battle for Kentucky (w).
Lt. Gen. Ian Miller completed five games in the month of October, four of them as Western Thunder Tournament actions!

The AotT said goodbye to Col. Antonia Aitala this month, that officer tendering his resignation. Brig. Gen. Paul Brennan has gone “dark” in his communications, his recent opponents indicating that he announced serious personal issues that will keep him, for the moment, removed from active field operations.

The 2010 Winter Campaign is now underway, and all officers of this command are advised to use their best judgement when committing their troops to inclement weather actions. Such endeavors are hard on both men and animals, the latter commodity being very difficult to replace!

This concludes my report.

I am, in all respects, courteously yours,
General Jos. C. Meyer, ACWGC UA
Commander, Union Army of the Tennessee
