The Union Army Awards Committee has approved two new commendation medals for incorporation into the UA Awards System; the Honorable Service Medal (HSM) and the Good Conduct Medal (GCM).

The first of these, the Honorable Service Medal will be awarded at the discretion of the individual field Army Commanders to those officers who contribute to the support of the Union Army. The medal carries a 5 OBD Point award and rests in distinction just below the Distinguished Service Order as an award for baseline service in either a command position or of a non-command contributory role of any type.

The Good Conduct Medal will also be awarded at the discretion of the individual field Army Commanders to those officers who display examplary conduct in their role as an officer of the Union Army. The medal carries a 5 OBD Point award and is more properly meant to award non-command officers.

The awards will be posted shortly within the UA Awards webpage. Field Army Commanders are authorized to issue these awards from this date onward.
