Retiring AotS Officer, Lt. Gen. Ambrose Tremel, Honored!

Official ACWGC Union Army General rank promotion announcements, command appointments and UA awards are made on the Parade Ground. The Mess Tent serves as a casual place for all club members to socialize, drink or have a meal, as long as they spend Yankee dollars! And, as much as we like to accommodate our Southron brethren, they will not be able to vote in any polls held here, or gain access to the restricted areas.

Lieutenant General Ambrose Tremel's "career" record within the ACWGC Union Army dates back to March of 2001, possibly earlier! He was one of a number of early club members who reside in Germany, and his penchant for administrative command was to become a hallmark within the Union Army of the Shenandoah, especially during his final 4 1/2 years. In December of 2003 he stepped up to command of a division and successfully held that position until May of 2004. He had also, as a colonel, made a name for himself the year previous by successfully contributing to the Union War College with an analytical essay concerning Battleground Gettysburg scenario No. 7, "Too Little, Too Late!" But it was in September of 2008 that he began a 4 1/2 year stint as the Commander of the AotS's VI Corps, becoming a Lieutenant General in October of 2009. Throughout his command years he managed to frequently secure honors within the on-going AotS Sharpshooter Contest, and was also the recipient of the Union Army's Sheridan Combat Medal and Exemplary Service Medal. He stepped down as the CC of VI Corps in April of this year, 2013. By then he had also acquired the following awards: the Corinth Campaign Medal, Battlefield Ribbons for Brandy Station, Ripley, 1st and 2nd Bull Run, Gettysburg and Shiloh. He was a participant in 2002/2003 Shenandoah Valley Tournament, the 2003 ACWGC Spring Tournament, the 2010 Summer Manuevers, the AotS 2012 Summer Offensive and the AotS 2012 Fall Offensive. General Tremel announced his retirement from the Club this past June, having accrued in his 14 1/2 years of service 1,527 OBD Points and a respectable 20-6-14-12-27 combat record, although many of his games were not recorded.

Ambrose cited personal issues encroaching upon his ability to continue his involvement. His retirement has been well-earned and he will be missed. On this occasion, I take great pleasure in recognizing his long-term service and "career" within the ranks of the Army of the Shenandoah by awarding him the Union Army's Outstanding and Honorable Service Medals, along with the unofficial Army of the Shenandoah Service Medal.

The OSM and HSM are the General's first such awards![/i]

OFFICERS OF THE ACWGC UNION ARMY,
Present, ARMS!
Order, ARMS!
Parade, DISMISSED!

Please join me in saluting this fine officer for his service accomplishments and in celebrating his award! My tab is again open in all participating establishments.
General Jos. C. Meyer,
Union Army Chief of Staff
Commander, Army of the Shenandoah
(2011-2014 UA GinC)
