Major victory over Rebs!

Post by TBWheeler »

Gentlemen, I have the distinct pleasure to report that Col. Ernie Fantini and I have won a major victory over our foe in a marathon "Struggle for Control" scenario of HPS Gettysburg. This may go down in club records as one of the longer contests ever, as it was part of the Gator Challenge that was launched nearly two years ago.

This began as a 4v4 contest, with Lt. Gen. Ned Simms in command of our side, against a Reb force led by BG Neal Hebert. As might be expected from such a prolonged affair, there was attrition, including our esteemed commander, who perhaps understandably found the pace of the game a touch too prolonged. The Rebs dwindled down as well, until Col. Fantini and I faced only BG Hebert. Please credit our original leader, LG Simms, for mapping out a tactical plan that proved victorious in the end, as we made contact, held our ground against aggressive enemy probing in the center and succeeded in turning both flanks of the enemy and completely surrounding them. BG Hebert fought a valiant and at times punishing rearguard throughout as we ground down his force. He insisted for some time that he would never surrender, but we gradually tightened the noose and eliminated unit after unit until he finally yielded.

Credit for the final victory, though, must go to my brother in arms, Col. Fantini, who recognized our edge in this contest early on and pressed the enemy (and me) to take full advantage. I'm truly honored to have served alongside him and would gladly join him in any fight against any odds. In conclusion, I ask you to join me in toasting the Union, General Simms and especially my comrade Col. Fantini for a fantastic victory!

WHOOPEE! This is a major major victory for the AotS. Although it wasn't part of the Fall Offensive, it was won against Neal Hebert, the most obnoxious component of the AotM. Kudos to both of you and to Lt.Gen. Simms. I have to post this in the MDT!- Gen. Ringbloom

Gentlemen <salute>

Colonels Wheeler and Fantini did fight an excellent battle, and I believe this was posted as well in the MDT forums. Their victory was earned, and our team recogized this. Our line suffered from an early breach of the right flank, and never truly recovered. Well done!

Colonel Fantini has formed another team for a rematch, however it's a maneuver since he had to recruit a CSA officer to fill his team; not enough fighting men in the AotS I guess, or maybe the "Fall Offensive" hurts too much
