AAR HPS Gettysburg - # 222 On A Collision Course VII

MAIN BAR ROOM
Welcome to officers of both sides. Sit down and enjoy a drink served by our lovely barmaids Gloria and Liberty. Trade war stories or tall tales, but remember your deportment; that large man behind the counter will not hesitate to escort you out, if your behavior does not honor your rank!

AAR HPS Gettysburg - # 222 On A Collision Course VII

Post by Redlegger »

Vs Maj. Gen. John Moore ./1/I, ANV

The Battle: A 4 Day Campaign.
Day One I operated under the impression that there was a Union Exit Hex to go with the CSA Exit Hexes.
I even made a quip that I could let him exit completely and then exit myself and gain a Major Victory due to the size of the Union forces.

I was wrong.
A terrible mistake of not really studying the map, perhaps too many games going on, and then making a terrible assumption.
Either way Maj. Gen. Moore moved his entire army around my right through terrain that I thought would significantly delay him.
It didn't, another mistake of not fully understanding the game mechanics, how fast an army can move through rough terrain, etc.

Thus by the beginning of Day Two the CSA was positioned between the Union Army and the CSA Exit Hexes.
Maj. Gen. Moore hung around till the end to be a good gamesman, but as the Union Army pounded his forces, (the forces did admirable, tactically a Major Union Victory, but strategically the leadership let the troops down), he withdrew from one defensive posture to another until he eventually withdrew all forces giving him the Major Victory he deserved.

The Opponent.
This is what the club is about.
Genial, good turn around, very capable.
I highly recommend Maj. Gen. Moore as a good challenge for the Union.

Currently we have decided to have another round at each other, outside Richmond on the Peninsula.
I hope and will work hard for a better report the next time but until then I hang my head in shame for squandering the fine performance of the men and bringing, (another), Major Defeat to our Army.

Respectfully

A humbled.

Not sure which scenario you were playing.

Didn't you use your cavalry for scouting?

I'd do a maneuver with you in a big game if you wanted unasked for advice... lol

Ooops, now I looked in the subject line...

Hmmm, tough battle you chose... down 2 of your Corps, but you do have cavalry to screen and scout with, maybe that's the lesson of this game, using your cavalry...

Which Peninsula battle are you doing?
