Dunagin's Farm help needed

Post by Mason Jar »

Bretheren,

I am in Deeeeep trouble on Dugan's Farm! Another Fld Lt fresh from VMI pick's a 14 turn battle from Ozark. He is first side and only needs 50points to get a minor, plus it's his infantry versus my cav, plus I'm an idiot, so I attack.

There is high ground on his flank so I dismount and grab it with 350 troops and 4 mountain guns. This shave tail pulls back to equally high ground extends his lines, AND sends out skirmishers to cover his flank and the valley below. A fact I don't recognize until after I have moved into what i think is a blind spot below him.

My brilliant plan is to keep my cav pushing through the woods around his right flank and toward clear ground in his rear. Those four mountain guns are horse arty so they can move through the woods with the dismounted troopers at about the same speed without disrupting. It should look pretty bad ass.

I want to keep him doing what he already doing, moving further and further away from his arty, which is parked on the road my reinforcements are due to come down. He might do it, there is a risk of him losings a 100 point objective. Not much of a risk because the objective is where his reinforcements are due. Will he realize that? Probably, he has not made any mistakes yet. He has started in that direction already, so there is a chance. If he does leave his arty unsupported or just pulls back he will loose a fifty point objective. Will he realize that? Probably, but now he is pulled in two different directions.

If he comes down the hill and attacks he'll get a minor win for sure and I'll have to try and crack the objectives to try fro a draw or fall back to prevent a major loss. Because gents, this time he has the high ground and interior lines. So here is hoping that Fld Lt Truitt thinks abut everything but attacking.

Well he didn't charge down the hill, but he is past me on my left. I thought he might have left some crucial high ground in the middle unguarded. It wasn't ungaurded, just unnamed, which in my book is a pretty good trap. I got my nose nipped, have a minor loss and am falling back.

Rob Truitt is a very good player and a gentleman soldier. He is MUCH better than me. He played quite a bit in other clubs and other games and seems to be able to push his troops very hard without pushing the game mechanics.

Rob tromped me all the way up to the final battle then dropped out of sight. Probably because i didn't give him enough of a challenge.
