MAIN BAR ROOM
Welcome to officers of both sides. Sit down and enjoy a drink served by our lovely barmaids Gloria and Liberty. Trade war stories or tall tales, but remember your deportment; that large man behind the counter will not hesitate to escort you out, if your behavior does not honor your rank!

Victory in Lt's Cup

Post by Mason Jar »

Sirs, >salute<

I have the honor of reporting another victory for the AoS. While taking part in the Lt's Cup Challenged I agreed to continue the education of newly minted Fld Lt James Edwards, CSA on the field of battle. For him it turned out to be a school of hard knocks! I doubled him up for a Major Victory in an equal force meeting engagement outside Perryville.

The Union side of the field is blessed with high ground and good roads so I concentrated my force and tried to goad him into probing down the three roads he could take to the battle. I figured if I concentrated and he didn't I might have a chance for mismatches and opportunities for destroying him in detail. Lt. Edwards was much better than your typical shave-tail. I'm sure he has played quite a bit before joining our club, but his main force ended up taking the longest of the three paths to the battle, and by the time he got there I had turned his right flank and captured a division of cavalry and another of infantry. Then I formed my reserve corps into column and marched south to man the ridge west of Doctor's Creek. Dang if, out of desperation, he didn't decide to try and charge across open ground uphill and into cannon stacked with infantry. It was magnificent! It was doomed! In a line 12 hexs long he moved forward, by the time he got into contact most rebel troops were disrupted, but he still attempted four melees. None of them succeeded, and he put in a termination bid.

It really payed off to get my cav in position to find and track him through the battle. I kept falling back getting stronger and tighter formations as he got spread thinner and thinner. I felt a little like Buford at Gettysburg, fighting a loosing battle out in front of your army to buy time for the rest of the army to hold the high ground. Most battle plans don't survive contact with the enemy, but this one followed the script.

So bartender give a glass on me to any man who will lift it in honor of the professors of VMI. May they never teach the value of interior lines!

Respectfully Submitted,
