Battle Reports for September
Posted: Mon Sep 06, 2010 4:55 pm
Its that time again. Battle reports are voluntary but they do count as a muster and hopefully soon will be worth OBD pts if you post them.
Multi-Player battles: I. Gettysburg"From out of the valley" Corcoran's Legion (2/VIII) versus Whitehead,Wadding,Weir and Pinkham.
Night has fallen after the first day and II and III Corps are withdrawing back to the Arcola P.O. on the Little River Pike.
I Corps is falling back to Beaver Creek. XI Corps is falling back to Broad Run. XII Corps is deploying from the Broad Run up north to Farmwell.
V Corps is moving north from Sudly Springs. Pleasanton and Stahel (cavalry) are blocking the 3 passes through the mts at New Baltimore, Thoroughfare Gap and Hopewell Gap.
We are still holding on to a minor victory but not by much.
2. Campaign Peninsula: Old Tavern (2nd battle). This has been on hold since Roger left but now it has been resurrected. Destefano wants to play but he can't find Kurkimilis or Magnus, his partners, to continue. David Groce and Rusty Hodgkiss are my compatriots in this one. If I remember this battle, V Corps is practically by itself. Since rusty is the commander of V Corps and he sat out the last game, he get plenty of playtime in.
3. Gettysburg: Scenario 007 versus Strickler, Drott and Medeiros. Dusk is coming after the first day. Casusalties are almost non-existent as the Rebs circle their wagons,it seems, west of Gettysburg. By eliminating a day of battle, they have conserved their ammo at the expense of having superior numbers. Now we have I and XI Corps facing them from the east, III corps marching up to the right flank from Middle Creek and XII Corps approaching their left flank via the Hannover road. II corps has arrived and will join II Corps but it will be sometime tomorrow morning before they arrive. V and VI Corps will arrive tomorrow then we will go on the offensive.
4. Gettysburg: Block the Crossings- a Summer Manuever with Corcoran's Legion agains the Catamounts (or Mounting a Cat). I and XI Corps are advancing north toward Hagerstown on separate but converging roads. the Rebs have been spotted in the Northwest by our cavalry scouts but no contact as yet.
Single Battles:
1. Antietam Campaign versus Roy Purcell- the final battle, Antietam, and I;ve got it up to a draw so far. Hooker on their left, is resting after taking the brunt of the mornings battle. XII corps is attacking across the hidden ford in the south but it is being hotly contested. II corps and some units of V Corps are pressing in the middle. The artillery is doing some hot work here. I've lost more men but he has lost more guns.
2.Corinth Campaign versus Roy Purcell : The final battle, Corinth- Roy is holding back in the north where I am strongest and moving troops around to my rear. I have detached a whole division to meet this threat but Corinth has a long perimeter and many roads leading into the city.
3. Gettysburg: The Warrenton Collision versus Sasha Marx. we started the game but he hs dropped the ball I guess. I have sent him an email. the game just started so no description on this one.
4.Chancellorsville Campaign: The battle of Chancellorsville,2nd day has arrived and after beating up on me in the first day, he realizes that Birney has activated and has started moving back. He tried attacking XI Corps(fixed) but I was able to acare him off with the few units he activated. I wonder if he knows that Meade's division has entered the map behind him? Still a draw.
5.Chickamauga:the battle of Stones River (editted to 1000 turns)- This will be a battle to the finish. No exits can be used. My Right Wing has crossed upriver and is fighting Reb Cavalry. A division of this wing discovered a hidden ford and is outflanking his present cavalry position. My Center Wing has arrived and is moving south toward Murfreesboro and will attack in the, well, center.
6. High Tide Cemetery Division Championship Match- against Doug Shaw, of course. I shouldn't even be here but it will be fun. We are each writing turn by turn descriptions with screenshots that we will turn into Ned at the end. If Doug squashes me like the smart money predicts, maybe we can use the battle as a "What not to do" lesson for new cadets.
That's all folks!
