Let's Stand Together

MAIN TAVERN ROOM
Welcome to officers of both sides. Sit down and enjoy a drink served by our lovely barmaids Helga and Ingrid. Trade war stories or tall tales, but remember your deportment; that large man behind the counter will not hesitate to escort you out, if your behavior does not honor your rank!

Let's Stand Together

Post by David Danner »

Officers of the Army of the Cumberland:

Gentlemen:

It is with great pride that I have been asked and accepted the Command of this fine Army that I have marched with for 10 years. My Cumberland Rifles mustered in within the XX Corps, 2nd Division, under a famed officer, Ax Ruhrmann. He is retired now, but many new officers have taken his spot on the field and with administrative duties. They have strived for excellence in combat and have given an outstanding accounting of themselves for others to follow.

There is much to do and for everything to be accomplished, a combined effort is essential. I’m asking each of you to stand up for the Army and the Club. If you want to advance in Command, take on additional duties, or step back from Command to Brigade level, then please make your wishes known. Each man and his role are important. Officers should decide if they just want to muster and play or achieve something more advanced and special to him. I urge each officer, regardless of rank and position to give this concept some thoughtful consideration.

I’m asking you to make this decision because Command positions require active leadership and frequent up/down communication. This takes extra effort and more than just adherence to the basic AotC Standing Orders, which all of us have bound ourselves. The main duties of command position are just pure communication, at the Tavern and within Division and Corps, plus active officer development and familiarity. I want no officer to feel he is alone and not supported by his Division/Corps Commanders or colleagues. Furthermore, all achievements and ideas must be identified and passed up the chain of command for study and reward.

I’m sending this Administrative memo to each of you by email and will post it in the “Woodin Injun Tavern.” Any ideas, comments, or wishes you have must be communicated directly to me with your Division and Corps Commanders copied for implementation. Gentlemen I thank you and support your efforts for the Army of the Cumberland and the Union. I look forward from hearing from each you. Salute.

General Danner I am more than happy to stand together with you, but only on the issues of drinking to excess, having fun at other people’s expense and horse stealing.

Now is there going to be any form of celebration to mark the change of command or do I have to go and find free drinks elsewhere?

General Danner,

I have read your message carefully and as you said that you were asking for a commitment of all officers regardless of rank and position, I have decided to write this message. I sent you an email but apparently had a wrong address.

I only joined the USArmy last month and was affected to this fine Army a few days later.

I obviously don't know a lot about how everything works, but I am wondering what kind of commitment you were asking for, and especially from an low ranking officer like me (I reached the rank of captain yesterday).

As a matter of fact, when I watch the AotC Staff display, I can see only 4 positions others than commanding officer : executive officer, adjutant, training officer and ordnance officer. 2 are vacants, the other 2 are held by at least 2-stars generals.
furthermore, when I read the AotC Standing Orders, I can only see orders for 2 of these 4 positions (Adjutant and Executive Officer). I then don't know what is expected from the training and ordnance officers.

As I am only a captain and though I will probably become Lt.colonel this month because of all my ongoing games that will probably come to an end pretty quickly, I obviously cannot apply for a commanding position. I have talked to my commanding officer who thinks that it is also too early for me to apply for any of these 4 staff positions.
Thus I am wondering if you were thinking of something special for young officers of my rank, or only to be as active as possible and wait to reach a better rank before being involved more deeply in the Army and Club's life.

Very respectfully
<salute>
