The last drunk falling would be C.S.A. General Cameron McOmish! But he won't fall when he's finished; he'll just stagger out the back door. Until then, that means a lot of drinking for the rest of us! I'm going on over to that table by the window with my beers to celebrate your promotion, Mark, and to watch for Cam's arrival. He shouldn't be too long, because he's got a fabulous nose for free drinks.

In the meantime, Mark, did I ever tell you the story of how I got my first star? That was in 2010 on the field at Antietam. It was a 8-player MP game and I was instructed to hold back Longstreet's entire corps with just one brigade, a sacrifice to buy some time. Well, I swung my boys around on good ground, deployed all four of my regiments in text book style, dropped the trails of my 6-gun Napoleon battery on a nice hill behind the infantry and proceeded to wait. Wasn't more than one turn later when the first rebs showed up, coming up out of the woods from the low ground to my front, right on up to a two-hex range! I gave the order and the brigade cut loose with a nasty rip that blew those rebel hats right off their heads while they just sort of melted into the ground. Smoke cleared away and there was nothing but routed and disrupted gray units scratching their way back into the trees.

But it was just the first assault of many that day, and my boys had their dander up. But that second assault nearly had us grabbing our butts. That's when I decided to "extend and pinch," a move that I'd been saving for just such an opportunity. You see, there's a little known facing trick that allows you to...wait, wait a minute! Is that McOmish riding up?

Congratulations Mark. I'm sure General Simms or Nelms will be the last to fall.. Salute.

Gents I have my drinking boots on, so you keep pouring them son and I will keep drinking them. Once we are all fired up we can site around talking politely about the merits of being in the Army of the Confederacy, because damn we are good.

Congratulations Mark. Since General Meyer shared the story on how he got his first star let me share mine. We were encamped just outside Washington awaiting orders to move when I went to ask Sands a question and without asking I just opened his tent flap and let's just say he was "engaged with the enemy" and hence I got my first star. Nothing as heroic as General Meyer but just goes to show that good scouting can pay off. Now about those free drinks. I've bought my special braces to make sure I remain upright for the entire evening and well into the morning.
