Evening Gentlemen!

(THUNK-Rumble-rumble-rumb... the sound of a hogshead of pail India Ale thunked down on the bar)

Drinks on me! Advise me or not...drink up!

I am getting ready to start my third battle and would like an idea of which "Optional Rules" are desirable to have and those to be eschewed.

My second battle, the Rebel gentleman sent the first turn with a 'selection' of rules chosen. I didn't care fore the obvious ones like "Weak ZOC" due to the large numbers of D and E quality troops. To experience the rules, I decided to play 'as-is'. But what about the rest?

Here the set I use.

You can play the defensive fire phase manually if you turn off "Automated Defensive Fire", this is desirable in scenarios where one side has to carefully manage defensive fire because forces are very different in size or where the ammo situation is tense.

There simply is no wrong answer as to what options to use. It is/will be a personal choice and you'll find opponents regardless of what options that you choose, although you can narrow the field considerably with some oddball choices. Myself, I'm not too bright, so I play every game possible with all options on except for MDF and Arty Capture (don't care much for the new Mixed Org Penalty either but usually play with it on) simply because I usually have a few games going at one time and if I vary from game to game then I'll never remember which options I'm playing with in that game, plus plenty of people play with those options so its not hard to find an opponent. I also play with no house rules other than the club sanctioned ones (and club sanctioned rules do not include limiting attacks in column or limiting movement after dark, etc) for the same reason (KISS is necessary for me).
