Officer Duties

 ~ Brigade Commander (BC), AotT ~
  • Maintain any active games in a timely and enjoyable fashion agreeable to your opponents.
  • Visit the Eagle's Perch and Mason Dixon Forums and AotT website at least once per month to keep abreast of army news and developments.
  • Upon receipt of the DC's "Muster Call" E-mail, make either a "direct" Muster Report in the Eagle's Perch Forum Conference Hall, or make an "indirect" reply to the DC's E-mail before the 15th of each month.
  • Assist DC, CC or AC with any reports or duties as may be required, and make recommendations for improvement in army operations as may be deemed appropriate.
  • Represent the brigade command in an honorable, dutiful and respectful manner contributing to the good order of the Army of the Tennessee and as becoming an officer of the ACWGC Union Army.
 ~ Division Commander (DC), AotT ~
  • Maintain games in a timely and enjoyable fashion agreeable to all parties involved.
  • Visit the Eagle's Perch and Mason Dixon Forum and AotT website on a weekly basis and keep abreast of army news and developments.
  • Muster in the Eagle's Perch Forum Conference Hall between the 1st and 5th of each month.
  • Send out a "Muster Call" E-mail to each officer within the division immediately after making post in the Conference Hall, directing them to provide their own Muster Report in the Conference Hall as a "direct" reply to the DC's posting or as an "indirect" reply to the E-mail message. This "Muster Call" E-mail and any subsequent reminder E-mails are to be cc'd to the Corps Commander.
    • Send out a second "Muster Call" as may be needed on or about the 10th of each month, reminding those officers who have not yet made a Muster Report that such will be due no later than the 15th of the month.
    • Make immediate, deliberate attempt on the 16th of each month to contact any officer within the division who has not made Muster reply, providing cc's to the CC and AC. Such e-mail should be made separate from that of the CC mentioned below and be constructed in a courteous manner.
  • Take responsibility for the morale and effectiveness of the Division, making award recommendations for the division's officers based on their performance, and providing promotional recommendations as required.
  • Support all officers of the Division with any concerns within the club.
  • Assist CC or AC with any reports or duties as may be required, and make recommendations for improvement in army operation as may be deemed appropriate.
  • Represent the divisional command in an honorable, dutiful and respectful manner contributing to the good order of the Army of the Tennessee and as becoming an officer of the ACWGC Union Army.
  • The Division Commander shall be considered an officer of the Army of the Tennessee's Command Staff.
 ~ Corps Commander (CC), AotT ~
  • Maintain games in a timely and enjoyable fashion agreeable to all parties involved.
  • Visit the Eagle's Perch and Mason Dixon Forums and AotT website on a weekly basis and keep abreast of army news and developments, maintaining an active presence in the former.
  • Muster in the Eagle's Perch Forum Conference Hall between the 1st and 5th of each month.
  • Oversee and insure the monthly Muster of the corps, making certain to direct the DC's to initiate their "Muster Call" E-mails if such has not been done by the 3rd of each month, and taking special care to note which officers have not made posting or reply.
    • Take over all of the Muster duties of the DC, if the DC has gone Out of Contact or is unable to perform.
    • Make immediate, deliberate attempt on the 16th of each month to contact any officer within the corps who has not made Muster reply, providing cc's to both the DC and AC. Such e-mail should be made separate from that of the DC's mentioned above and be constructed in a courteous manner.
  • On the 16th of each month, submit a monthly Status Report of the corps to the Army Commander or Chief of Staff noting the following items:
    • A brief narative report outlining the current, general status of the Corps.
    • The Corps Officer Points Form complete with graded points for muster and DC administrative points.
  • Take responsibility for the morale and effectiveness of the Corps, making award recommendations for the corps's officers based on their performance, and providing promotional recommendations as required.
  • Support all members of Corps with any concerns within the club.
  • Monitor the activities of all officers within the corps, paying particular attention to those officers whose activities have diminished or those officers who appear to be having difficulty, and bringing such to the attention of the AC.
  • Assist the AC or CoS with any reports or duties as may be required, and make recommendations for improvement in army operation as may be deemed appropriate.
  • Represent the corps command in an honorable, dutiful and respectful manner contributing to the good order of the Army of the Tennessee and as becoming an officer of the ACWGC Union Army.
  • The Corps Commander shall be considered an officer of the Army of the Tennessee's Command Staff.
 ~ Chief of Staff (CoS), AotT ~
  • Maintain games in a timely and enjoyable fashion agreeable to all parties involved.
  • Visit the Eagle's Perch and Mason Dixon Forums and AotT website on a weekly basis and keep abreast of army news and developments, maintaining an active presence in the former.
  • Muster in the Eagle's Perch Forum Conference Hall between the 1st and 5th of each month.
  • The Chief of Staff is the head of the Army of the Tennessee's Administrative Staff. He is responsible to the AC for the overall, administrative effectiveness of the army in the following areas:
    • Provides the AC with a monthly, updated status report of eligible officer promotions.
    • Provides the AC with a monthly, updated status report of the army's non-active officers including the following:
      • Officers within the AotT Hospital, noting the length of time so assigned and a record of attempted communication with each.
      • Officers Missing-in-Action or Out-of-Contact, noting the length of time so declared and a record of attempted communication with each.
      • Officers on Leave of Absence, noting the length of time remaining on such leave.
      • Officers Retired with Honors, noting the date of such retirement.
      • Officers Discharged from the army, noting the date of such discharge.
  • Responsible for the oversight of those officers assigned to the army's Administrative Staff and any additional personnel so assigned to the staff for training purposes.
  • Provide a written, yearly performance review of all AotT Administrative Staff officers for the AC and make recommendations as to the continuance of those officers' assignments.
  • Responsible for conducting personal background inquiries of all AotT officers as to potential leadership and/or administrative skills and keeping record of such on a continuing basis.
  • Assist the AC with any reports or duties as may be required, and make recommendations for improvement in army operation as may be deemed appropriate.
  • The Chief of Staff shall be considered both an officer of the Army of the Tennessee's Command and Administrative Staff.
 ~ Advanced Training Officer (ATO), AotT ~
  • Unless otherwise stipulated, the ATO performs all of the duties associated with his normal field command, as outlined above.
  • The Advanced Training Officer is responsible for the immediate and timely orientation of a newly assigned officer, utilizing the platform of an "Advanced Training Game." His duties in this regard include the following:
    • Check to see that the new officer has access to the ACWGC Automated System (Department of Records) and is versant in both proper game reporting and report reading, especially the Field Promotion Report. He must also establish that the new officer can correctly find the E-mail addresses of club members from the Roster or OOB sections.
    • Make certain the the new officer has proper access to the Mason Dixon Forums and that he can properly read and post within the Opponents Wanted section.
    • Make certain that the new officer has proper access to the Union Army War College and has been provided with the correct passwords.
    • Make certain that the new officer has been provided with the internet sites associated with the Army of the Tennessee and that he has access to the Eagle's Perch Forums and can properly post within the Eagle's Perch Forum Conference Hall.
    • Provide the new officer with a basic education regarding the organization and structure of the Army of the Tennessee.
    • Make certain that the new officer understands the AotT Muster Procedure.
    • Provides a suitable tactical and operational training lesson of his own choice of a length he considers suitable to the awardance of the AotT Advance Training Ribbon to that new officer.
  • The ATO will provide the AC or CoS with a confidential report of the new officer's character, level of enthusiasm and any noticeable traits or background information that he has noticed during the training exercise which he feels may contribute to that officer's future development.
  • The ATO may also undertake additional tactical and operational skill training with any AotT officer who requests it.
  • The ATO shall be considered an officer of the Army of the Tennessee's Administrative Staff in addition to his field command duties.
 ~ Assistant Adjutant-General (AAG), AotT ~
  • Unless otherwise stipulated, the Adjutant performs all of the duties associated with his normal field command, as outlined above.
  • The Adjutant is responsible for a 1st of the month examination of the records of the officers of the Army of the Tennessee at the ACWGC Automated System (Department of Records). The Adjutant shall examine start and end game reports of the Army to determine if all officers have on-going battles, and end game reports to determine which officers are eligible for awards or battle honors.
  • He will also conduct a bi-annual review of the Army records to determine which officer is to be awarded the Sheridan Combat Medal, which is based on total victories of the last six months against Rebel officers. January and July are when this award will be determined. The Adjutant will report this information directly to the AC or CoS with his recommendations by the 3rd of each month.
  • The Adjutant shall have such other duties and responsibilities as determined by the AC or CoS.
  • The Adjutant shall be considered an officer of the Army of the Tennessee's Administrative Staff in addition to his field command duties.
 ~ Chief Engineer (CE), AotT ~
  • Unless otherwise stipulated, the Chief Engineer performs all of the duties associated with his normal field command, as outlined above.
  • The Chief Engineer may be directly responsible for the creation and origination of the army's forums and website(s), such work performed under the direction and supervision of the AC or CoS.
  • The Chief Engineer is directly responsible for the maintenance of the army's internet forums and webpages as supervised by the AC or CoS including the following:
    • Makes regular updates to the army website for all awards, rank updates and OBD points adjustments, on or about the 20th of each month.
    • Makes additions, deletions or changes to the OOB display as personnel transactions occur.
    • Insures the viability of the host website, making recommendation for change as may be necessary.
    • Maintains and safeguards all file archives of the army website as insurance against unexpected loss of codes.
  • Makes recommendations and suggestions for the improved quality and enhancement of the army website and forum as appropriate.
  • Educates, familiarizes and instructs officers assigned as his assistants in the operation and maintenance of the army's forums and websites.
  • The Chief Engineer shall be considered an officer of the Army of the Tennessee's Administrative Staff in addition to his field command duties.
 ~ Aide-de-Camp (ADC), AotT ~
  • Unless otherwise stipulated, the ADC performs all of the duties associated with his normal field command, as outlined above.
  • The ADC is responsible to the AC or CoS for supernumerary duties involving the the compilations and maintenance of the various administrative reports deemed necessary for the proper functioning of the army by those officers. He may also perform routine E-mail correspondence as directed by the AC or CoS as required, being also cc'd by them when required.
  • The ADC shall have such other duties and responsibilities as determined by the AC or CoS.
  • The ADC shall be considered an officer of the Army of the Tennessee's Administrative Staff in addition to his field command duties.
 ~ Army Commander (AC), AotT ~
  • Maintain games in a timely and enjoyable fashion agreeable to all parties involved.
  • Visit the Eagle's Perch and Mason Dixon Forums and AotT website as frequently as possible and keep abreast of army news and developments, maintaining an active presence in each.
  • Muster in the Eagle's Perch Conference Hall between the 1st and 5th of each month.
  • The Army Commander is the chief authority for all activities and decisions taken in the operation and functioning of the Army of the Tennessee. He is directly answerable to the Western Theater Commander (WTC) of the ACWGC Union Army. His duties include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Oversee and insure the monthly Muster of the army, making certain to direct the CC's to initiate the "Muster Call" with their DC's on the 1st of each month.
      • Provide subjective grading of the Chief of Staff's and Corp Commanders' Muster Reports.
      • Provide subjective awardance of monthly Administrative and Conduct Points as required.
      • In the event that a CC is unavailble to perform their specific Muster duties, the AC shall perform such in his place.,
    • Oversee the selection and recommendation to the ACWGC Union Army General-in-Chief (GinC) of the AotT's Chief of Staff and all corps and division commanders.
    • Oversee the selection and appointment of all of the AotT's Administrative Staff.
    • Responsible for the continued operation and maintenance of the AotT's two main, internet venues; the Eagle's Perch Forum and the AotT webpage.
    • Responsible for the continued operation of the Union Army Awards Program within the AotT.
    • Provide a written, yearly performance review of all AotT Command Staff officers for the GinC and make recommendations as to the continuance of those officers' assignments.
  • Review all correspondence directed from the WTC and GinC.
  • Initiate a monthly Parade at the Old Abe Tavern, making formal announcement of all commendations.
  • Provide the WTC and GinC no later than the 20th of the month with a monthly AotT Army Report according to the current Union Army Standing Orders.
  • Take a particulary active interest in the welfare and activity of all junior officers, especially those of company grade (lieutenants and captains).
  • Support all officers of the AotT with any concerns about the AotT, the ACWGC Union Army or the club in general.
  • Promulgate all changes or modifications to the ACWGC Club Rules or Union Army Standing Orders as required.
  • Represent the army command in an honorable, dutiful and respectful manner contributing to the good order of the Army of the Tennessee and as becoming an officer of the ACWGC Union Army.
  • The Army Commander is the head officer of the Army of the Tennesee.
