Corps Commander Duties

  • Maintain games in a timely and enjoyable fashion agreeable to your opponents.
  • Visit the ACWGC Main Forum, the Union Army HQ Forum (including the AotS Winchester Arms Subforum), and the AotS Home Page at least once a month to keep abreast of army news and developments.
  • Oversee and insure the monthly Muster of the corps.
    • Send your "Muster Call" e-mail to each Division Commander on or about the 1st of each month, directing them to copy you on their own divisional "Muster Call" e-mails. If you have not received a copy of the various Division Commander's "Muster Call" e-mails by the 3rd of the month, immediately remediate the situation.
    • If the Division Commanders have not made an early report by the 10th of the month regarding the Muster status of their divisions, immediately remediate the situation with them.
    • Take over all of the Muster duties of a Division Commander, if the any have gone Out of Contact or are unable to perform.
    • Make an immediate, deliberate and direct attempt on the 15th of each month to contact any officer within the corps who has not made Muster reply, providing copies of such to the respective Division Commander, Chief of Staff and Army Commander.
    • Keep a record, on a month by month basis, of each corps officer's status as defined by General Order, No. 5, Union Army Standing Orders, advising the Army Commander when an OOC officer has become eligible for assignment to the AotS Hospital.
    • The Corps Commander will make special attempt to contact by e-mail all OOC officers at the beginning of each month subsequent to the month they did not answer to the Muster Call, advising each of the number of months they may have been absent and listed as OOC, and keeping records of all such contact attempts. These contact attempts will maintain a courteous manner and continue until such time as the missing officer either regains contact and or is transferred into the AotS Hospital.
  • On or about the 15th of each month submit a monthly Status Report of the corps to the Army Commander or Chief of Staff noting the following items.
    • A brief but complete narrative report outlining the current, general status of the corps.
  • Recommend General Officer promotions, as required, to the Army Commander.
  • Notify corps officers of their promotion eligibility.
    • Step 1: Examine the AotS's OBD Summary Report found in the Reports Section of the Department of Records.
    • Step 2: Notify all promotable officers of their impending promotion eligibility by e-mail, providing copies of such to the respective Divsion Commanders, Chief of Staff and Army Commander.
  • Take responsibility for the morale and effectiveness of the corps, making award recommendations for the corps's officers based on their performance, and providing promotional recommendations as required.
    • Send a welcome letter to each newly assigned officer.
      • Discuss corps policies and conventions as needed.
    • Ensure newly assigned lieutenants are registered in the Lieutenant's Cup Tournament competition and that they have, are or will be conducting their initial training with the AotS Advanced training Officer.
  • Support all members of the corps with any club or game concerns.
  • Monitor the activities of all officers within the corps, paying particular attention to those officers whose activities have diminished or those officers who appear to be having difficulty, and bringing such to the attention of the Army Commander.
  • Assist the Army Commander or Chief of Staff with any additional reports or duties as may be required, and make recommendations for improvement in army operation as may be deemed appropriate.
  • Represent the corps command in an honorable, dutiful and respectful manner contributing to the good order of the Army of the Shenandoah and as becoming an officer of the ACWGC Union Army.
  • The Corps Commander shall be considered an officer of the Army of the Shenandoah's Command Staff.
