Army Commander Duties

  • Maintain games in a timely and enjoyable fashion agreeable to your opponents.
  • Visit the ACWGC Main Forum, the Union Army HQ Forum (including the AotS Winchester Arms Subforum), and the AotS Home Page at least once a month to keep abreast of army news and developments.
  • File a personal Muster Report in the Winchester Arms Back Room on or about the 1st of each month.
  • The Army Commander is the chief authority for all activities and decisions taken in the operation and functioning of the Army of the Shenandoah. He is directly answerable to the Eastern Theater Commander (ETC) of the ACWGC Union Army, if the office is occupied, or to CoA (GinC). His duties include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Oversee and insure the monthly Muster of the army, making certain to direct the Corps Commanders to initiate the "Muster Call" with their Division Commanders on the 1st of each month.
      • For the purpose of awarding Conduct Points for Muster response, subjectively grade the Muster Reports of the Chief of Staff and the Corp Commanders.
      • In the event that a Corps Commander is unavailable to perform his specific Muster duties, the AC shall perform such in his place.
      • Upon recommendation by the Chief of Staff or notification by the Corps Commanders, issue a Hospitalization/Contact Inquiry letter to those officers who have been OOC for three, consecutive months, and continue to do so each month for up to three, consecutive months, providing copies of all such e-mails to the Chief of Staff, Corps Commanders and the Assistant Adjutant General.
      • Recommend to the Eastern Theater Commander the discharge of officers who remain OOC for a period of six, consecutive months, providing copies of all such e-mails to the Chief of Staff, the respective Corps Commanders and the Assistant Adjutant General.
  • Oversee the selection and recommendation to the ACWGC Union Army General-in-Chief (GinC) of all AotS command officers.
  • Oversee the selection and appointment of all of the AotS's administrative staff officers.
  • Responsible for the continued operation and maintenance of the AotS's main, Internet venue; the AotS webpage.
  • Responsible for the continued operation of the Union Army Awards Program within the AotS.
  • Provide a written, yearly performance review of all AotS command officers for the GinC and make recommendations as to the continuance or suspension of those officers' assignments.
  • Review all correspondence directed from the ETC and GinC.
  • Initiate a monthly Parade at the Winchester Arms Bar subforum, making formal announcement of the following:
    • AotS Promotion Report,
    • AotS Awards Parade,
    • Twin Star Division Honor Guard, and
    • AotS Monthly Report.
  • Provide the ETC and GinC no later than the 20th of the month with a monthly AotS Army Report according to the current Union Army Standing Orders.
  • Maintain the AotS Muster Record based upon reports from the Chief of Staff, Corps Commanders and the Assistant Adjutant General.
  • Maintain an electronic record of all Reports, Muster, Discharges and Retirements and all significant correspondence for every year while in command.
  • Update the OBD POints of each AotS officer within the Department of Records no later than the end of each month.
  • Take a particulary active interest in the welfare and activity of all junior officers, especially those of company grade (lieutenants and captains). providing copies of all such e-mails to the Chief of Staff, the respective Corps and Division Commanders and the Assistant Adjutant General.
    • Issue the initial Welcome Letter to each newly assigned officer, making ceratin to include references to:
      • The AotS Muster Policy,
      • The ACWGC Club Rules,
      • The Union Army Standing Orders, and
      • The officer's assignment instructions.
    • Monitor the further assignment of new officers.
  • Support all officers of the AotS with any concerns about the AotS, the ACWGC Union Army or the club in general.
  • Promulgate all changes or modifications to the ACWGC Club Rules or Union Army Standing Orders as required.
  • Represent the army command in an honorable, dutiful and respectful manner contributing to the good order of the Army of the Shenandoah and as becoming an officer of the ACWGC Union Army.
  • The Army Commander shall be considered as the head officer of the ACWGC Union Army of the Shenandoah.
