RULES

1. Game: Kernstown 1, 02-Balanced Scenario, 15 turns Hypothetical. All optional rules apply during the tournament. Game uses the BGBR CD disk and must be downloaded from the Cartography Office. Game engine was chosen to ensure maximum participation by both Armies. The HPS game was also considered for the second game but felt it would not be a mirror match although this technique will be considered the next time.

2. This is a 2 game mirror match tournament, but with different opponents. Parings to be determined by draw by game coordinator/s/.

3. AoC has the Union first & the AoA the Confederate side. The sides are reversed in the second contest. Only one game is to be played @ a time.

4: There are new rules with this game so read the PDT changes.

5: There will be no melees for ZoC unless the unit/s/ are routed and isolated. The only exception is if an enemy unit is behind your lines.

6: The victory dialogue box in your respective game will determine victory. The Union player will be responsible in reporting results to game coordinator/s/. A minor and major victory both count as a victory. A draw is a draw and has no value. The Army with the most wins, i.e. 6 to 5 wins.

7: Game coordinators:
AoA: Maj.Gen. John Dragan: mailto:AoC_draganfly@adelphia.net
AoC: Maj.Gen. Dave Danner: mailto:AoC_dvdanner@southernpage.net

8: Lt.Gen. Antony Barlow, AoC will keep and maintain a web site with rules, parings, and results.

9. The following ribbon, created by Col. Greg Edmand, will be awarded to all participants: AoA-AoC Tournament 2004-5 [click to view larger image]

PDT CHANGES

25 men strength points

New fire result tables; more chance to inflict fatigue to the target also for small-sized units;
- Increased effect of fire actions to inflict fatigue increments to the target.
- Maximum loss of strength after fire action: 100 men;

New melee result tables;
- Maximum loss of strength after melee action:150

Each melee action costs a total of 4 fatigue points for the loser side, and 3 for the winner; it would induce players to melee enemy units very carefully.

Breastwork construction: 25%

Rearward Movement Penalty: 0

Same command radii for CS and US leaders.

Higher fatigue recovery rating: 15% day, 45% night.

Abatis and obstructed terrain: blocked terrain now means "obstructed terrain" with abatis or passive obstacles; only infantry or dismounted cavalry in line of battle can pass through it but with a cost of 8 points. In this way an unit that enter in this terrain must remain exposed to the enemy fire for a long time before arriving close to the enemy line.

With these mods the fire is emphasised rather than melee actions. Also small sized units become more effective.
Units under fire become fatigued sooner, also without receiving an high loss of strength (the high loss of men in the original games seems very unrealistic).
The fatigue degree of an unit rather than his loss of strength is the "focus" of these mods.
